Unit 3 Homework

In today's class we talked about and practiced finding the CONTENT words when reading questions and answer choices.

We also talked about making PREDICTIONS based on those content words. 

Also, we talked about practicing doing the above tasks quicker and quicker as we practiced more. That is, we talked about reducing your time in finding CONTENT words and making PREDICTIONS. 

Remember that the TOEIC test is a timed test, so being able to find content words and make predictions faster and faster is an important skill to practice. It will save you time on the test AND in general it will improve your understanding of English.

 

For this Unit, your homework is as follows.

 1. We completed number 1 and number 2 on page 25. We looked at the CONTENT words and made PREDICTIONS, as I showed you in today's slideshow. We talked about what words are RELATED to the words in the question and answer choices. 

For questions 3, 4 and 5, I want you to do the same thing as I showed you in class. Find the CONTENT words and make PREDICTIONS based on the words you see. Remember what we talked about in class

- Predict what nouns/verbs/sentences you might hear for these questions/answer choices

- Predict WHO is talking, WHAT they are talking about, WHERE they are talking etc...

- Are any of the words in the questions/answer choices VOCABULARY words from Unit 1, 2 or 3? Be sure to write them down. What Unit are they from??

-  Are there any words in the questions/answer choices that might be PARAPHRASED?? 

Remember the main idea of PARAPHRASING > Same idea, different words

Look through Slide 14 and Slide 15 from today's slideshow for examples of what to write about

 2. Do the same exercise as above for the questions on page 26, but ONLY for the correct answer choices. You don't have to write about the incorrect answers.
